What Is The Perfect Way To Use A Saxophone at a Corporate Party?

I was at a gig in Victoria in a cute little wine bar on Friday. Whilst I was talking to the client (who was in charge of a sizeable PR firm in Soho) and bar manager for the company party that was about to kick off. The client was worried that all of the preparations for the Christmas party would come to nought - people wouldn’t turn up, enjoy the food, would find some fault in it etc.
Both the bar manager and I, both veterans of many parties (big and small) set to reassuring her that all the pieces were in play for her party to be a good one - a good amount and quality of food, unlimited booze, a saxophonist (she was definitely not sure about her investment in me at this point in the evening!), and maybe most importantly, a suitable room size.
A room that is too big for your number of guests can really kill the vibe of a dance floor. This place was big enough for 50 but 30 people made the room feel full and it meant that one person getting excited had a knock-on effect on the rest of the room. The vibe was electric; once I finished my opening classy set of Bossa Nova covers of pop songs and moved onto the singalong saxophone power hour the guests were ready to go!
The point of this is that hiring a saxophonist and using them at any time during your wedding or corporate party will work - they’ll be professional enough to maximise your guests enjoyment and make sure that they’re something to talk about. Some sax players will be better at relaxed jazz music, some will be better at whipping up your guests to a frothing frenzy on the dance floor - let them play to their talents!
If you provide good food, good booze (and enough of it), some killer entertainment that isn’t too quiet or too loud, and all in a room that is vibey then you’re onto a sure-fire hit. The guests for this party arrived at 17.30 and they were screaming Pitbull lyrics at me from the floor by 19.00. By this stage the client knew she’d made the right choices and treated herself to a couple of (possibly more) celebratory glasses of bubbles.
Good Choices: Good Party!
