Booking a destination wedding is a dream come true for couples - beautiful venues in gorgeous settings create unforgettable memories and allow you to truly organise the wedding of your dreams!
Booking a saxophone player for your destination wedding can transform your celebration into a truly unforgettable experience… they add class, ambience and will be able to fit the right vibe for your wedding.
There are plenty of things you should know when booking your saxophonist but, with clear communication, you should have no problem booking the best element of your celebration!
When to use your sax player is quite important. The beauty of the solo saxophone as an entertainment option is that they are just as suitable playing you up and down the aisle as they are creating a relaxed vibe at your outdoor scenic champagne reception, playing your first dance and then dancing with your guests for the rest of the night on the dance floor! Indeed, if you’ve flown the sax player out from England then you could probably use them to do a bit of everything! Just make sure that they can play the right style of music for you and your guests by checking their websites or instagram reels.
Booking a saxophonist and flying them over from England does come with a few extra considerations than a standard wedding might. It might sound ridiculous but make sure your chosen saxophonist has played abroad before and seems on top of the logistics - the saxophone player you hire needs to be able to execute the travel logistics correctly, including plane times, hire cars, sometimes trains and dealing with soundcheck and equipment hire in languages they are likely less experienced in. This can add a fair bit of extra stress and difficulty so make sure your musician is comfortable adapting to the challenges long distance travel can throw up!
A word to the wise - make sure they take their saxophone on as hand luggage. A colleague got a shiny new saxophone case that they could check into the hold with no fear of damage… but then their sax was sent to Milan when they flew out to Malaga, causing havoc with the wedding they were menacing to be playing at!
The main thing I’m trying to get across is that hiring a saxophonist and flying them out is definitely a great move but does generate a few logistics headaches. But as long as you address the main ones which are flights (including baggage for gig clothes and instruments), local transport to the wedding venue (this can be a sticky one) and additional fees for having to be out a day early. All of this can be sorted in advance but just be sure to be explicit about all the steps - I’ve heard of performers being stuck out in rural France and out in the snow in Norway… best to avoid those sorts of anecdotes!
