What Is the Best Day of the Week to Have My Wedding On?

Choosing your wedding date is one of the first big decisions you'll make when planning your wedding. But have you considered which day of the week is best?

While Saturday has traditionally been the most popular choice, more couples are now exploring alternative days to enjoy greater flexibility, potentially lower costs and a wedding that feels uniquely their own, especially when looking at abroad and destination weddings.

Is Saturday Still the Best Day for a Wedding?

Saturday remains a popular choice for weddings, largely because it allows guests to celebrate without worrying about work the following morning. It also provides plenty of time for a full wedding day, from the ceremony and drinks reception through to the evening party, allowing guests to get to and often from the venue all on one day.

However, Saturdays are often the most expensive days to book venues and suppliers, particularly during the peak wedding season in June, July and August. If you're working with a tighter budget, choosing another day could free up money for other elements of your celebration, such as entertainment, photography, catering or saxophonists.

Is Friday a Good Day to Get Married?

Friday weddings have become an increasingly attractive option. They offer many of the advantages of a Saturday wedding but can sometimes be more affordable. A Friday celebration also creates the opportunity for a full weekend of festivities. You could organise a relaxed gathering on Saturday, allowing you to spend more time with friends and family who have travelled to attend. Many cultures like to enjoy multiple days of wedding celebration so Friday is definitely worth considering as a wedding day. The main consideration is whether your guests can take time off work, particularly if you're planning an earlier ceremony.

What About a Sunday Wedding?

Sunday weddings can be particularly appealing for couples seeking a relaxed, informal atmosphere. They're often well suited to outdoor celebrations, garden parties and smaller gatherings. Some venues and suppliers offer different pricing for Sundays, although this varies considerably depending on the location and time of year. One consideration is the evening reception. Guests may need to leave earlier to prepare for work on Monday, so it's worth planning your entertainment accordingly.

Are Weekday Weddings Worth Considering?

Absolutely! Monday to Thursday weddings can offer significant flexibility when booking venues and suppliers. If you're planning a destination wedding, a smaller celebration or an event with a guest list consisting largely of close family and friends, a weekday could be an excellent option. Also, if you’re organising a destination wedding then a lot of people will be more forgiving for what day the actual wedding is on as they’re likely to travel out to the destination for a full week (if they’ve got any sense)!

Nick Pike Sax often gets wedding gigs in for Wednesdays and Thursdays, most regularly for teachers in holiday times, Wedding and events organisers and staff (who, for obvious reasons, struggle to get married on Saturdays) and for people with other seasonal jobs. However, consider your guests' availability before committing. You may find that some people struggle to attend if they need to take annual leave or arrange childcare.

Does the Day of the Week Affect My Wedding Entertainment?

It can, particularly when considering how long you want your guests to stay and how your evening reception will unfold. A Saturday wedding might lend itself to a late-night party, whereas a Sunday celebration may benefit from a slightly earlier finish.

Live music can help create the right atmosphere whatever day you choose. A saxophonist performing during your drinks reception or evening party can bring energy and excitement to your celebration without requiring a large band. The Nick Pike Sax/DJ package combines live saxophone with a professional DJ, creating a flexible entertainment experience that can adapt to your schedule, musical preferences and the atmosphere you want to achieve. There is also a solo package which could suit the vibe you wish to capture for your wedding better.

So, Which Day Should I Choose?

Ultimately, the best day for your wedding is the one that works for you, your partner and the people you most want to share it with. Saturday offers familiarity and convenience, while Fridays, Sundays Thursdays and Wednesdays can provide alternative opportunities to create a memorable celebration. Just don’t get married on a Monday. No-one likes Mondays. Get in touch with Nick Pike Sax to discuss your wedding plans, whatever day you choose!
