What Do I Get When I Hire A Saxophonist For My Wedding?

When it comes to live events—whether it’s a wedding, corporate function, or private party—the music you choose can make or break the atmosphere.

Few instruments capture both sophistication and energy like the saxophone. From smooth jazz classics to upbeat pop hits, the sax has an unmatched ability to fill a room with soul, elegance, and fun. In this guide, we’ll explore the most popular event songs played on saxophone and break down why they resonate so well with audiences.

Why the Saxophone Is Perfect for Events

The saxophone has a unique versatility. It can sound mellow and romantic during a wedding ceremony, or bold and vibrant during a party. Unlike other instruments, the sax blends seamlessly with both live bands and DJs, making it a top choice for all types of events. Its rich, expressive tone connects emotionally with listeners, instantly elevating the mood.

Top Saxophone Songs for Events

Here are some of the most requested songs for saxophonists to perform at weddings, parties, and corporate events. These will vary from player to player but Nick Pike performs these at nearly every wedding , party or event:

1. “Careless Whisper/Baker Street” – George Michael/Gerry Raferty

Careless Whisper has become synonymous with the saxophone. Its smooth, sultry melody instantly captures attention, making it perfect for slow dances or romantic moments. I’ve also put Baker Street in at number one as the soaring sax line in this classic is unforgettable. It brings a nostalgic vibe to events and works especially well during cocktail receptions. Both of these tracks are great and get requested all the time. They don’t necessarily fit the vibe of a lot of gigs that Nick Pike Sax plays but they are most definitely worthy of a mention.

2. “Just the Two Of Us” – Grover Washington Jr. (feat. Bill Withers)

With its heartfelt lyrics and timeless sax riff, this song is a wedding favourite. It’s often requested for first dances and anniversary celebrations. If this is not quite your vibe then check out the Sunset Chasers, Summer Sax, Alex Grey version for some Tropical Vibes and Ibiza polish.

3. “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” – Stevie Wonder

This features as a first dance a lot as it is lyrically perfect for a wedding, as well as having a really fun energy and cross-generational appeal. A lot of DJs will drop this after a slow first dance to start raising the dance floor tempo whilst keeping the material accessible - it’s a good one!

4. “Jubel” – Klingande (Sax Cover)

‘Jubel’ is an Ibiza vibes favourite and gets requested for nearly every gig these days. The sultry saxophone, played by Snake Davis originally, is a joy to perform and lands. It’s worth using the sax cover version as the original mix is quite long and slow to start but it is a banger!

5. “Freed From Desire” - Gala

This is a staple end to almost all of my sets, unless I’m purely doing a background music gig. I was told by a trumpeter colleague that the main rule of entertainment he follows is ‘make everything a football chant and you’re golden’ - Freed From Desire fulfils that brief perfectly!

6. “Uptown Funk” – Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars (Sax Version)

Sax covers of funk and pop tracks are a surefire way to get the party started. This hit is a staple for lively celebrations though it is interchangeable with a variety of other pop classics.

Why These Songs Work So Well

  • Recognisable Hooks: Each of these songs features a memorable melody that instantly grabs attention.

  • Emotional Impact: Whether it’s romance, nostalgia, or pure fun, the saxophone enhances the emotion behind each piece.

  • Versatility: From background music during dinner to high-energy dance floor fillers, these tracks fit multiple event moments.

  • Cross-Generational Appeal: Classics like “Careless Whisper” and modern hits like “Jubel” or “Uptown Funk” ensure everyone in the audience connects with the music.

Final Thoughts

The saxophone isn’t just an instrument—it’s an experience. Whether you’re hosting a wedding, gala, or private celebration, adding a saxophonist playing these timeless songs guarantees an unforgettable atmosphere. From romantic ballads to upbeat crowd-pleasers, these tracks prove why the saxophone remains one of the most requested instruments at events.
