When booking a wedding, I always ask the couple whether or not they want saxophone during the first dance.
I’m of two minds about whether or not sax is suitable for then; for some tunes it adds so much showmanship and interest and makes an already cool part of the wedding even bigger but for others it detracts from one of the couple’s first intimate moments.
It’s really up to the couple and I would always recommend picking a first dance that will make both of you comfortable and mean something to you. For example, the first dance for my wife and I was ‘Still Young’ by The Cat Empire, the first band that we had gone to see together and which was lyrically suitable for marriage but with a beat set to get the party going. Every couple is different, every wedding is different and every couple should choose what they want.
However, if you’re not that bothered about a first dance at your event, with or without saxophone, then I’d still recommend having a little moment for relatives to take pictures whilst you dance and to get your guests in one place and on the dancefloor.
First Dance Ideas
Below are some tunes that are emotional and are easy to dance to but will pull all the right heart strings (not to mention that they work well on saxophone as well!) and they should have mass appeal to all of your wedding guests.
This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) - Nat King Cole
At Last - Etta James
Perfect - Ed Sheeran
Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran
All Of Me - John Legend
How Long Will I Love You - Ellie Goulding
Hopefully these will get your creative juices flowing and give you some simple first dance ideas that will go down well with the crowd and will hit all the right emotional points for you… it might even be worth having a saxophone to play along with you!
