Social Media And Expectations For Your Saxophonist

London Wedding Saxophone

Social media is wonderful for sharing the most incredible, interesting, unique and sometimes intimate details of a wedding. It is a fantastic resource for both wedding and party ideas and contact details for local suppliers.

However, social media is becoming increasingly saturated by wedding suppliers and that’s on top of all the various content bots and AI/algorithmic video suggestions, making it becomes harder and harder to stay focussed on finding the right supplier for you. The cream that ends up rising to the top of your algorithm are often the most unique and bizarre performances that don’t necessarily represent the bulk of the performers that you’re likely to actually be choosing from.

From the side of the wedding saxophone player, it used to be the norm to have a detailed showreel, showing your skill and breadth of ability. Now the standard is to show the truly outstanding moments of a performance, be it a crowd all jumping up and down to the sax player or the saxophonist suspended on a wire playing careless whisper above the bride… these are amazing things to capture on film and make for top-dollar click bait… but those kind of amazing videos don’t happen without a lot of planning and engineering!

Your saxophonist is always going to play their best for both your guest’s enjoyment and their own performance and reputation. However, if they are playing constantly for an hour and a half or two hours plus, those amazing moments won’t happen throughout - they can’t, otherwise they wouldn’t be stand out or amazing moments.

The point is that don’t expect to hire a saxophonist and be guaranteed to have a party that matches up to the ones that you see in those 15 second clips on social media. Your party will be made by you and your guests celebrating you and your partner’s nuptials or birthday or engagement, being present and loving the performance your chosen sax player gives to you, surrounded by your friends and family, dancing the night away.

Hopefully a photographer can capture that moment and gets some great photos or videos, or maybe you have a friend who is forever filming everything that happens. Regardless, make your wedding day be your wedding day for you and your chosen partner and try not to compare it to someone else’s Perfect Wedding Day Pinterest board - make it your perfect day.

And make sure you hire a saxophonist.
