Should I Hire A Saxophone For My Destination Wedding?

You’ve booked that beautiful place in the sun that you’d always dreamed of getting married in; the Spanish villa, the Italian beach, the French Vineyard, the Bulgarian barn. Wherever your dream destination is you then have to work out the logistics of sorting entertainment. Booking a saxophone player for your destination wedding is a must and sax will lift the energy, romance and make for an unforgettable vibe for your special day.

As with all suppliers it can sometimes be the case that organising your special day with all the specific requirements and attention to detail that might be required doesn’t work so well across language barriers. What you may also find is that getting good entertainment and backline equipment is a lot more challenging in rural France than say London. Having hired backline (PA speakers, microphones etc.) from a selection of European countries and turned up to discover that equipment was faulty, didn’t match the list of gear I’d actually hired or just plain wasn’t there then I would suggest sorting as much as possible in England and then flying your players and as much gear as possible out.

Now, there are plenty of location weddings where there will be excellent infrastructure in place so I wouldn’t worry about that until you have to. I had a wedding out in Hvar, Croatia a couple of years ago and the equipment and sound guy were incredibly professional and it made for a really fun gig.

Things you need to bear in mind when booking a saxophonist is that you will have to fly them out from their house and back again. This includes taxi or airport parking plus a place to stay when they arrive in the country of your choice. Some saxophonists will require a small fee to feed themselves (per diems)  but all of this can be discussed with your destination saxophonist in advance. Most saxophonists doing weddings are reasonable and won’t try to trick you or have hidden costs so just make sure to discuss exactly what you’re after.

It’s worth booking your chosen saxophone player well in advance to make sure that you don’t get hit by expensive flights or late bookings and discussing when you want them out there. If you ask them to fly out the day before then there may be an extra charge if it means missing out on other gigs.

Whether you want your saxophonist on a rooftop in Greece or a beach in Spain then Nick Pike Sax is the Destination Saxophone for you!
